ONE Million Mask Challenge for SCOUTS!
The Million Mask Challenge is a volunteer network that makes cloth face
masks, surgical caps, and other items to fight COVID-19. Our priority is
to support frontline health care providers. We also donate to help
other frontline heroes, including hospital support staff, police,
firefighters, paramedics, food pantry and shelter volunteers, critical
government employees, and other frontline workers, as our supply
permits. We have seen the hospital field come together in amazing ways,
rising to the challenge of the COVID-19 crisis and providing care to our
communities. Health care workers are our most valuable resource when it
comes to treating and stopping the spread of the virus. Our nation’s
hospitals and health systems are working diligently to ensure the safety
and well-being of the health care workforce. They must have the
personal protective equipment (PPE) and support they need to provide
care to patients.
The demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) has created a severe
shortage of PPE across the world. The supply simply cannot keep up with
the demand. To respond to that need, the American Hospital Association
is launching a call to action to increase production and distribution of
PPE to health care workers across the country.
The Challenge
The ONE Million Mask Challenge was originally launched by Scouting
Magazine, Sri Lanka. where they have seen a tremendous outpouring of
support from individuals, community organizations and local
manufacturers. Providence entered into an important collaboration with
Scout Troops.
The World Scouts is expanding the 100 Million Mask Challenge nationwide.
We are calling on manufacturers, the business community and individuals
across the country to coordinate efforts—facilitate new relationships
with hospitals and health systems—in order to rapidly produce needed PPE
on a large scale for our nation’s health care heroes.
This is just the start of our efforts and this national call to action.
Needs exist nationwide and shortages are vast. AHA will expand the scope
of the 100 Million Mask Challenge to meet the growing challenges and
needs of our health care workers, hospitals and health systems as they
take on the COVID-19 pandemic.
