9th National Scout Jamboree preparations well under way
Around
 8000 scouts along with their Scout Masters from all the districts of 
Sri Lanka will participate at the Jamboree to be held in Jaffna from 
20-26 February at Municipal Grounds and adjoining areas.
This is the first time a National Jamboree is being held in Northern Province and also coincides with 100 years of scouting in Jaffna. The Theme of the Jamboree is “Friendship & Understanding”.
Around 200 Foreign scouts and leaders are expected from a few countries. Already Nepal, India, Malaysia and Bangladesh have confirmed their participation. Maldives is yet to confirm.
The campers will be divided in to 4 Sub Camps named Pidurutalagala, Namunukula, Rakwana and Samanala. The Sub camp Administration Team will administer the Sub Camps which will be headed by a sub camp Chief with a Deputy and Assistant.
Campers are expected to arrive on 20 February Saturday at 8.00 a.m. Activities will commence with the Soft Opening on 21 February at 8.30 a.m.
Around 25 activities of Adventure, Skills, Culture, Environment, Archaeology, Traditional Games, Health and sustainable Energy will conducted between 9.00 a.m – 5.00 p.m each day.
Activity Awards will be given to the scouts who complete the minimum number of activities required. An activity book will be given to all registered scouts to record the activities done.
The Jamboree will be ceremonially declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday 22 February at 4.00 p.m. at the Jaffna Central College Grounds. The Opening also coincides with Baden Powell Day.
Daily Cultural and Musical Presentations will take place from 7.00 p.m. and the International Night will be on 22nd February 2016. Jaffna Centenary Day will be held on 23rd February with activities planned for the whole day culminating in the evening with a Cultural Presentation. The Army Beat Group will be in attendance on 21 February and the Navy Beat Group on 22 February.
The Closing Ceremony will be on Friday 25 February at 4.00 followed by the Arena Display Depicting the history of scouting in Sri Lanka followed by a musical presentation by the Air Force.
Campers will leave on 26 February after obtaining clearance certificates.
The Jamboree Chief is the Chief Commissioner Prof. Nimal De Silva and the Joint Organising Commissioners are M. F. S. Muheed and Damian Silva . 9th National Jamboree - Sri Lanka, will be held on 20th February 2016. 
Jamboree will be located in Jaffna where we had 30 years of civil war. 
Keeping our foremost strength as scouting brotherhood we will get 
together as the strongest global volunteering community to trumpet our 
peace. 
We welcome all Scouts from around the world to join us
 at the  9th National Scout Jamboree, Sri Lanka Scout Association The 
organizers have spared no pains in ensuring that all participating 
Scouts and leaders have a memorable experience. The 9th National 
Scout Jamboree will be held from 20-26 February 2016 at the Municipal 
Grounds in Jaffna. This will also coincide with 100 years of Scouting in
 Jaffna District. The Scouts from the 
Jaffna District Scouts have prepared themselves to welcome their brothers from 
all over  Sri Lanka and also from around the world and give the visitors
  valuable insights to “ Scouting Life in  Northern Sri Lanka”. It will be the first time that a National Jamboree is 
being held in the Northern Province. 
Jamboree Theme
The theme of the Jamboree will be “Friendship and 
Understanding” All participating Scouts are expected to foster 
friendship and understand each other from various parts of Sri Lanka and
 Scouts from other countries.
Jamboree Badge
The 9th National Scout Jamboree Logo Launch was 
held on Wednesday 16th September 2015 at 5.30 p.m. at the “The Blue” at 
Colombo Hilton under the distinguished patronage of  Hon. Akila Viraj 
Kariyawasam, Minister of Education. The 9NSJ Logo  was designed by Wood badge Scout Leader Lal Perera. 
Jaffna Jamboree Site
The Jamboree site is in the Jaffna 
Peninsular in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. The Jaffna District is
 very rich in historical and cultural traditions. The Historical Jaffna 
Fort is within the Jamboree Site. Other famous landmarks in close 
proximity to the Jamboree site are Nallur Temple and the Jaffna Library.
 Jaffna is  famous for  the palmyrah tree. This tree provides the basic 
materials for preparation of variety of  food and other items. Many 
Palmyrah products will be available near the Jamboree site. Jaffna 400 
kilometers from Colombo and is easily accessible by road and rail 
transport.
Jamboree Participant 
Around 8000

participate at the Jamboree to be held in Jaffna
Municipal Grounds and adjoining areas. Around 200 Foreign scouts and leaders are expected from a few countries.

The campers will be divided in to 4 Sub Camps.

Highlights of the Jamboree Activity 
are Skills and Adventure,
 Water Activities, Exhibitions, Friendship Programme, Global Village, Visits to Historical and Cultural sites, Cultural 
Performances and Displays. Campers are expected to arrive on 20 February Saturday  at 8.00 a.m.
Activities will commence with the Soft Opening on 21 February at 8.30

It is very simple and easy 
to win. I am sure that all Jamborites would get this. But please 
remember not to select activities where there is not much of a crowd. 
Otherwise you would be wasting a lot of time. This Award was designed by
 Mr. Ruwan Ariyaratne Hq.Commissioner. You will also get the Activities
 hand book. The cover of this too was designed by Mr. Ruwan Ariyaratne. 
  
Opening Ceremony 
The Jamboree will be ceremonially declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena
on Monday 22nd February at 4.00 p.m. at the Jaffna Central College Grounds. The
Opening also coincides with BP Day.
