9th National Scout Jamboree- 2016, Sri Lanka Scouts
2016 February 19 to 26 @ Municipal Council Ground - Jaffna, Sri Lanka.

 

The 9th National Scout Jamboree was held from February 20-26, at the Municipal Grounds & adjoining areas in Jaffna. It was organised by the Sri Lanka Scouts Association. The event coincided with 100 years of Scouting in the Jaffna district & this was the first time that a National Jamboree was held in the Northern Province. His Excellency President & Chief Scout of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena opened the ninth National Scout Jamboree at the Jaffna Central College. 

The opening rally was held with the Chief Commissioner, Prof. Nimal de Silva as the chief guest. The Minister of Education Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Hon.Reginald Cooray, Governor of the Northern Province, Justice C.Visuvalingam Vigneswaran, Chief Minister of the Northern Province and some other provincial politicians and Officials, were also present at the ceremonies. Over 9500 Scouts, Masters & Officials of NHQ, Sri Lankan Scouts and over 200 Scouts from Nepal, India, Malaysia and Bangladesh & participated in the event.

 

  

 

As well as over 20 distinguished Scout guests from APR countries & WOSM also attended the ceremonies and witnessed the big event of SL Scouts. Over 5500 parents of Scouts and Local People, were also visited the Jamboree and also 500 volunteers, municipal workers, were provided the services. The theme of the Jamboree was Friendship and Understanding. President Sirisena commended the scout leaders including the Commissioner, Nimal de Silva who dedicated themselves to the Scout Movement in Sri Lanka. Around 25 activities of Messengers of Peace, adventure, skills, culture, environment, archaeology, traditional games, health and sustainable energy, Global Village, were conducted from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. each day. The Activity Award was presented to the scouts who completed the minimum numbers of activities required. The closing ceremony was held followed by the Arena Display Depicting the history of scouting in Sri Lanka followed by a musical presentation by the Air Force. All campers received a clearance certificate before leaving.

 

President Maithripala Sirisena who ceremonially declared open the 9th National Scout Jamboree in Jaffna yesterday in seen posing for a selfie with one of the girl scouts participating in the jamboree. This  is the first time a National Jamboree is being held in the Northern  Province. The event also coincides with 100 years of scouting in Jaffna. The theme of the Jamboree is “Friendship & Understanding”. Around 8,000 scouts along with their Scout Masters from all the districts of Sri Lanka are participating. Around  200 foreign scouts and leaders from Nepal, India,  Malaysia and Bangladesh too are taking part. The Jamboree will be held until February 26. Northern Province Chief  Minister C.V. Wigneshwaran and newly appointed  Governor Reginald Cooray too were among those who attended.

 

The Soft Opening Ceremony of The 9th National Scout Jamboree was held on 21st February 2016 at Municipal Council Ground’s under the patronage of Chief Commissioner Prof. Nimal De Silva, As well as Member of Regional Scout Committee APR/WOSM Mr . Ahmed Ali Maniku,( Maldives) / Chief Commissioner The Scout Association of Malaysia Dato Dr. Mohd Zin Bin Bidin / International Commissioner (S) BS&G & Consultant to Regional Scout Committee APR/WOSM Mr. Mohamed Ali Khalid / International Commissioner The Scout Association of Malaysia & Consultant to Regional Scout Committee APR/WOSM Dr. Mohammed Mukhyuddin Bin Sarwani / Chief Commissioner of Nepal Scouts Mr. Rabin Dahal / National Organizing Commissioner of Nepal Scouts & Chairman of the Programme Sub-Committee APR/WOSM, Mr. Dev Raj Ghimire / ADC (Training) Trinidad and Tobago Mr. Anand Singh / Secretary General of ISGF – AsPac Committee Mr.M.A.K Mecci / Mr . Mr T. Gunaseelan & Ms Brenda Gunaseelan from ISGF – AsPac, Contingent Leader of Maldives to 9th NSJ Mr. Amil Shareef, also graced the occasion as the Special Guests. 

Chairman of the Executive Committee Mr. Ransiri Perera, Deputy Chief Commissioner Mr. Shiraz Salih, International Commissioner & Member of Regional Scout Committee Mr. Janaprith Fernando, Joint Organizing Commissioners, Headquarters Commissioners, Sub Camp Chiefs, and Members of Organizing Committee also attended the occasion.

The closing ceremony of the 9th National Scout Jamboree Jaffna 2016 was held on 25 February 2016 at the Central College Grounds, Jaffna. Chief Minister of Northern Provincial Council Justice C. V Wigneswaran graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Also Chief Commissioner Emeritus Professor Nimal De Silva,Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva, Distinguished guests and top officials of SLSA also presented at the occasion.

During the ceremony a special Stamp and First Day Cover was issued to Commemorative the 100 Years of Scouting in Jaffna & 1st Cover was presented to Hon. Chief Minister of Northern Provincial Council

 

" බාලදක්ෂ ජම්බෝරිය යාපනයේ තියෙනවා කියලා කිව්වම දකුණේ දරුවෝ කොච්චර සන්තෝශයෙන්ද මේ ප්‍රදේශයට ආවේ. ඒ වගේම තමයි දකුණේ දරුවෝ ජම්බෝරියට එනවා කිව්වම උතුරේ දරුවෝ කොච්චර සන්තෝශ වුනාද..? එහෙමනම් මේ හැම දරුවෙකුගෙම, අපි හැමකෙනෙකුගෙම තියෙන්නේ 'එකම ලේ ' කියලා අපි හැමකෙනෙක්ම දන්නවා. ඒ නිසා මේ රට ගොඩනගන්න අපි හැම කෙනෙක්ම එකට එකතු වෙන්න ඕනේ..
එමෙන්ම බාලදක්ෂ ව්‍යාපාරයට ලෝකේ කිසිම රටක, කිසිම කෙනෙක් විවේචනය කරලා නෑ. බාලදක්ෂ ව්‍යාපාරයේ වැඩ කරන අය හොරු, දූෂිතයෝ, වංචාකාරයෝ, මිනීමරුවෝ කියලා කිසිම චෝදනාවක් එල්ල වෙලා නෑ.ඒ නිසා මම කියනවා බාලදක්ෂ ව්‍යාපාරය කියන්නේ ආධ්‍යාත්මික දර්ශනයක්..ආගමක් වගේ දර්ශනයක්. එම නිසා මේ බාලදක්ෂ ව්‍යාපාරය අපේ රටට අද දවස වගේම හෙට දවසෙත් ඉතාමත් අත්‍යවශ්‍ය මානවවාදී ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨ ව්‍යාපාරයක්.
