Scouting was begun in Sri Lanka in 1912 and this year also marks the centenary of Scouting in Sri lanka (1914 - 2012). The World Scout Movement is now the largest youth body in the world comprising more than 30 million members. “Smart, Courteous, Obedient, Useful and Trustworthy” citizens have been the marvelous fruit of this movement for the last 106 years, since its inception in 1907 as the brainchild of Lord Robert Baden-Powell.

Kids (Singithi) Scouting has again successfully initiated a project that would benefit the entire Scout Movement in Sri Lanka, which will add a new section to their Scout Group and open a new chapter in the history of scouting in the country. The Singithi Scouts program will be based on more outdoor activities and fun filled play time that will enable the little ones to bring out their talents. Areas of work include: handwork, games, acting, singing and storytelling. Furthermore, this program, which is world renowned as one of the best methods, is intended to educate young children through the most simplest of ways.

The Sri Lanka Scout Association too has decided to follow suit and has successfully taken the first step by promoting the concept in a few schools, of which the

Scouting was begun in Sri Lanka in 1912 and this year also marks the centenary of Scouting in the Colombo District (1914 - 2014).
The 16th Colombo Scout Group has taken part in several competitions. At the held last September, the Senior Troop was able to retain the prestigious Brig. C.P. Jayawardena Challenge Trophy awarded for the ‘Best Senior Scout Troop’ in the District. The C.P.J. Shield was retained for the fifth consecutive year by the Troop (2009-2014).
The Troop had also retained the Mayor’s Flag (awarded for the Best Junior Scout Troop) for eight consecutive years from 2006 to 2013. The Troop retained both awards for five consecutive years from 2009-2013.
The 16th Colombo Cub Pack has also been performing exceptionally well throughout the years. The present Cub Pack comprises around 200 Cubs backed by many Cub teachers (Akelas). The Cub Pack recently won the C.M.P. Wanigathunga Flag for the ‘Best Cub Pack in the District’ for the 8th consecutive year, since its inception in 2007.
Furthermore, in the most recent annual Scout Service and Relationship Week held in June 2014, the Group raised a record collection to become the ‘Highest Collectors in the Island’. The District Commissioner’s Flag was also awarded this year for the third consecutive year titling the Group as the ‘Best Scout Group in the District’.
Amidst all these achievements it is important to note the fact that the Group does not only attempt to win competitions, but also to maintain an exemplary level of conduct and discipline in all fields.
There is a high level of commitment and hard work that is put in to all these which has yielded results.
The Group also maintains a code of high ethical and moral values, thus producing self-reliant, independent and able individuals.
The 16th Colombo Scout Group having thus performed so well over the past many years is well qualified to pioneer Singithi Scouting in Sri Lanka.
